Service — Laser Alignment

Laser Alignment Service in Ontario

RED Systems provides pump-to-motor laser alignment services across Ontario. Misalignment between the pump and motor shaft is a primary cause of bearing failure, seal wear, vibration, and premature rotating equipment deterioration. Laser alignment corrects both angular and offset misalignment to manufacturer tolerances.

Signs Your Equipment Needs Laser Alignment Service

Repeated bearing failures on same pump
Seal wear or failure after short service intervals
Pump vibration after repair or motor replacement
New pump installation requiring alignment verification
Post-piping-work alignment check
Soft foot condition suspected on baseplate
Preventive maintenance alignment inspection

What RED Systems Can Support

Laser Alignment Measurement

Precise measurement of angular and offset misalignment in both vertical and horizontal planes using laser alignment equipment.

Soft Foot Correction

Identification and correction of soft foot conditions before alignment — critical for achieving and holding correct alignment.

Shim Selection & Adjustment

Calculation of correct shim thickness and horizontal move to bring the pump and motor into alignment within OEM tolerance.

Post-Alignment Verification

Final measurement after alignment to verify both planes are within tolerance. Documentation of as-found and as-aligned readings.

Coupling Condition Review

Inspection of coupling element condition, coupling gap, and coupling guard during the alignment process.

Alignment Report

Written alignment report with as-found readings, soft foot condition, corrections made, and final as-aligned values.

Laser Alignment Service — Common Questions

How often should pump alignment be checked?
Alignment should be verified after any pump or motor replacement, after mechanical repairs, after any piping changes near the pump, and as part of a scheduled preventive maintenance program. Many pump manufacturers recommend annual alignment checks on critical equipment.
What is soft foot and why does it matter?
Soft foot is a condition where one or more feet of the motor or pump do not sit flat on the baseplate. It causes the machine frame to distort when the feet are tightened, making it impossible to achieve correct alignment. Soft foot must be corrected before alignment can be performed.
Can you do laser alignment as a standalone service call?
Yes. RED Systems can schedule a laser alignment visit independently of any repair or rebuild work. Provide the pump location, motor HP, and coupling type when requesting the service.
What tolerances does RED Systems align to?
RED Systems aligns to the tighter of the coupling manufacturer's tolerance and the pump OEM's recommended alignment specification. Tolerances are documented in the alignment report.
